i’m sherraiNe
A born and raised Brooklyn native, social worker, identical twin, pisces, in serious like with aquamarine/turquoise if you could not tell. Proudly, fiercely, respectfully pro-choice, pro-family, pro-reproductive justice. Really want to reclaim the term ‘pro-life’ from the anti-abortion crew. Most of all, I’m so happy you’re considering hiring a doula.
A love of babies and a serious passion for advocacy and child and family welfare are what lead me to the doula world and reproductive justice work as a whole. I learned what a doula was in the fall of 2013. I was graduating soon and contemplating my post-grad future when I came across a profile of Erica Chidi-Cohen, a practicing doula in L.A. I’d entered college with a desire to work in the realm of child psychology, specifically in regards to child well-being, but the more I learned the more I saw that the child’s wellbeing was so much more tied to the family’s welfare than to just their own individual psychology. In reading Erica’s profile I felt a click, that goldilocks sense of rightness, that this was what I was meant to do. There were necessary detours on the road to becoming a doula, but literally since that day I have been inching my way towards doing this work, and now here I am. It feels good to be where you’re supposed to be!
My Commitments:
As a full spectrum doula, I am committed to practicing along all levels of care. What I offer to anyone I work with is compassionate, continuous care; witty banter; and totally non-judgmental physical support for your pregnancy, abortion, labor, birth, and parenting journey. You can do it! I believe in you! I’m here to help.
What initially brought me to the work was a desire to widen access to doula care in lower income households and communities of color. When I say I believe that everyone deserves a doula, I both mean that everyone deserves to feel supported through their birth and postpartum process, but also that doulas should not be a luxury available to only those who can afford it. As such, I am committed to making sure all families can receive good care by providing free and low cost doula services to those who need it. Finances will not be the reason we don’t work together.
